About this film
This is a brilliant documentary about the life and philosophies of a remarkable New York City tour guide named Timothy “Speed” Levitch. This film was a huge hit at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival and since then Speed has become a bit of a cult celebrity. But the film is less about Levitch’s life than it is about the city of New York itself and Levitch’s tumultuous relationship with it. What is perhaps most powerful about this documentary is the way the meaning of this pre-Sept. 11th film has evolved since the terrorist attacks. In fact, one of the film’s final scenes involves a (now) poignant moment beside the former World Trade Centers. A beautiful, witty and touching film that is definitely worth checking out.
