About this film

Life in the Undergrowth is produced by the BBC and narrated by David Attenborough. It explored the life of insects and other invertebrates. It is divided into 5 episodes.

  • Invasion of the Land - Invertebrates were the first animals of any kind to take on the land.
  • Taking to the Air - How insects have mastered flight
  • The Silk Spinners - Spiders and other insects that spin threads.
  • Intimate Relations - Because they've been around so long, insects have been able to create very intricate relationships with other species.
  • Supersocieties - Mostly ants. Insects working together as one to do amazing things.

Chris's Thoughts

We bought this at the Discovery Channel Store when it was closing down (40% off!). It turned out to be a great purchase as it's become one of our favorites. The reason is, we just didn't know that much about invertebrates. It's really changed our minds about bugs. Recently (9/2007) a spider has taken up residence on our back porch. Normally, I'd shoo it away, but since watching this documentary, I've been fascinated by it. I even try to catch flies to feed it (haven't succeeded yet--catching them is easy, getting them to fly into the web is tricky).
