About this film

Called by some critics “a documentary that Monty Python would have produced had they been in the documentary business,” Cane Toads is a quirky film detailing many perspectives on the bufo marinus (more commonly known as “cane toads”). For those who may not be aware, cane toads have nearly overrun the northeastern continent of Australia ever since the 1930s when they were artificially introduced to help eradicate the sugar cane beetles which were killing the crops at the time. This film takes a humorously irreverent and unapologetic look at the literal culture which has sprung up in response to this blight of toads: from cane toad monuments to cane toad drug abusers.

NOTE: this film should only be watched in the presence of people with a taste for the more bizarre side of humor and who aren’t grossed out terribly easily.

Alyssa's Thoughts

Voted by many of my high school students as the funniest documentary they had ever seen. :)
