About this film

This is the story of the little student film that could. Made by film students at the University of Southern California, George Lucas in Love was one of the first student films to be premiered solely on the Internet that went on to win tons of awards; it even garnered a screening from Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas. (The latter wrote the filmmakers a letter congratulating them on a great film.) As the title suggests, this is a parody of Shakespeare in Love in which George Lucas, suffering from writer’s block, begins to draw inspiration for Star Wars from a lovely double bun-haired co-ed who is “leading the student rebellion.” This hilarious short film is, sadly, no longer available on DVD. But if you happen to find a copy of it, it features a great bonus section with a pop-up video version of the film that points out all the references.

Alyssa's Thoughts

If you do manage to find a copy, I’ll give you a hint to the secret code: look at the title of George Lucas’ first feature-length film. Tee hee!
